Here we provide additional qualitative comparison of segmentation results and CM visualization results on MNIST and MS datasets. We examine the ability of our method to learn the CMs of annotators and the true label distribution on single label per image.

Note that only the samples that the predictions of the network were correct are counted for a fair evaluation. Since segmentation labels are provided as 0's and 1's, it is possible to evaluate the quality of attribution maps as abinary classification task. This process can be repeated with different thresholds to produce a ROC curve. These examples also predict the correct label (person, horse, cow, train, bus, cat). Finally, a separate classifier is retrained on this perturbed dataset.

ImageNet class labels - the class labels are unusable. In the fine-tuning phase, the pruned network is fine-tuned for 10 epochs with batch size 180. We conduct experiments for structured pruning methods on ImageNet. We observe same tendencies in the results (Table 4). Our method outperforms naive compression in terms of maintaining the attribution maps.

MedSegFactory: Text-Guided Generation of Medical Image-Mask Pairs

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

This paper presents MedSegFactory, a versatile medical synthesis framework that generates high-quality paired medical images and segmentation masks across modalities and tasks. It aims to serve as an unlimited data repository, supplying image-mask pairs to enhance existing segmentation tools. The core of MedSegFactory is a dual-stream diffusion model, where one stream synthesizes medical images and the other generates corresponding segmentation masks. To ensure precise alignment between image-mask pairs, we introduce Joint Cross-Attention (JCA), enabling a collaborative denoising paradigm by dynamic cross-conditioning between streams. This bidirectional interaction allows both representations to guide each other's generation, enhancing consistency between generated pairs. MedSegFactory unlocks on-demand generation of paired medical images and segmentation masks through user-defined prompts that specify the target labels, imaging modalities, anatomical regions, and pathological conditions, facilitating scalable and high-quality data generation. This new paradigm of medical image synthesis enables seamless integration into diverse medical imaging workflows, enhancing both efficiency and accuracy. Extensive experiments show that MedSegFactory generates data of superior quality and usability, achieving competitive or state-of-the-art performance in 2D and 3D segmentation tasks while addressing data scarcity and regulatory constraints.

Deep Learning for Micro-Scale Crack Detection on Imbalanced Datasets Using Key Point Localization

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Internal crack detection has been a subject of focus in structural health monitoring. By focusing on crack detection in structural datasets, it is demonstrated that deep learning (DL) methods can effectively analyze seismic wave fields interacting with micro-scale cracks, which are beyond the resolution of conventional visual inspection. This work explores a novel application of DL-based key point detection technique, where cracks are localized by predicting the coordinates of four key points that define a bounding region of the crack. The study not only opens new research directions for non-visual applications but also effectively mitigates the impact of imbalanced data which poses a challenge for previous DL models, as it can be biased toward predicting the majority class (non-crack regions). Popular DL techniques, such as the Inception blocks, are used and investigated. The model shows an overall reduction in loss when applied to micro-scale crack detection and is reflected in the lower average deviation between the location of actual and predicted cracks, with an average Intersection over Union (IoU) being 0.511 for all micro cracks (greater than 0.00 micrometers) and 0.631 for larger micro cracks (greater than 4 micrometers).

RS-MOCO: A deep learning-based topology-preserving image registration method for cardiac T1 mapping

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Cardiac T1 mapping can evaluate various clinical symptoms of myocardial tissue. However, there is currently a lack of effective, robust, and efficient methods for motion correction in cardiac T1 mapping. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based and topology-preserving image registration framework for motion correction in cardiac T1 mapping. Notably, our proposed implicit consistency constraint dubbed BLOC, to some extent preserves the image topology in registration by bidirectional consistency constraint and local anti-folding constraint. To address the contrast variation issue, we introduce a weighted image similarity metric for multimodal registration of cardiac T1-weighted images. Besides, a semi-supervised myocardium segmentation network and a dual-domain attention module are integrated into the framework to further improve the performance of the registration. Numerous comparative experiments, as well as ablation studies, demonstrated the effectiveness and high robustness of our method. The results also indicate that the proposed weighted image similarity metric, specifically crafted for our network, contributes a lot to the enhancement of the motion correction efficacy, while the bidirectional consistency constraint combined with the local anti-folding constraint ensures a more desirable topology-preserving registration mapping.
